About Us
The Office of the Whistleblower was formed as part of the Dodd-Frank Act. We help handle whistleblower tips and complaints, and we provide guidance to the Enforcement Division staff. We will help the Commission determine the size of awards for each whistleblower. Further, we assist whistleblowers by promoting the program, providing guidance and answering questions about the program.
Sean McKessy heads the Office of the Whistleblower. Sean re-joined the Commission in February 2011, nearly 11 years to the day after he completed a three year stint as Senior Counsel in the Division of Enforcement. In the intervening years, Sean worked in-house as Securities Counsel for Caterpillar Inc. and as Corporate Secretary for Altria Group, Inc. and AOL Inc.
